About me

 

Hello! My name is Isabella Boedeker, and I’m a 17-year-old journalist and athlete from Grosse Pointe North High School.

 

I first became captivated by journalism in my freshman year, when the monthly publication of North Pointe would come out in my third-hour English class. I was always the first to grab a copy and eagerly read through the diverse and intriguing stories. A few months later, I signed up for honors journalism, and in that moment, I knew I had discovered a new passion.

 

Outside of the North Pointe room, I serve as a captain on the softball field and volleyball court, preside over my class, and work on organizing fundraisers, building floats, and preparing activities to foster unity within my grade and school. I also volunteer in my community through NHS, empower women through WILLOW, create safe spaces for neurodivergent students at my school with KNOTS, support freshmen through Link Crew, and mentor students in the freshman assist class. Additionally, I help with 10U softball practices and babysit for local families.

 

Through numerous interviews, stories, and designs, I have come to truly appreciate the power of storytelling. I am proud to be part of such a special community, and I know that my experience in journalism has prepared me for the future and will always be a part of who I am. My passion for news reporting has driven me to advocate for change in politics. This fall, I plan to attend the University of Michigan, where I will pursue a double major in Political Science and English, on a pre-law track. I am confident that the skills I’ve developed through journalism will help me succeed in this next chapter of my journey.
