When I joined North Pointe as a nervous freshman intern, I never imagined I’d become Managing Editor. At the time, I was hesitant to ask questions and unsure of my place. But over the years, this newsroom gave me space to grow—into a confident communicator, a supportive leader, and a curious learner.
One of my proudest moments was leading a major investigation into former school administrators. My commitment to fair, accurate reporting pushed me to attend school board meetings, where I uncovered information that directly affected students. Realizing how disconnected my peers were from local governance, I launched the School Board Scoop, a social media initiative that made policy updates easy to understand. It strengthened my belief that students deserve a voice in the decisions that impact them.
Through interviews and editing, I’ve learned to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds—skills that I’ll carry with me into classrooms, internships, and beyond. Though I often keep my political views private, journalism has given me a voice. I plan to pursue a degree in Political Science at the University of Michigan, where I’ll continue using storytelling as a tool for justice—because I believe real change starts with informed, fearless conversation.
North Pointe has been one of the most special things to me, and I have truly found a home within B3201. Thank you Ms.Dunn for everything; you helped me become a better version of myself, and supported me through everything the past three years. I cannot put into words how much I will miss this class and all of the people I have worked with over the years.
I chose to include this piece because I was proud to present to the community a profound issue within the special education system, and the lack of support for it at North and throughout the district. The strengths include the diversity of sources from the district, and the Q and A that adds helpful information and is easy to follow. The weakness is definitely the art, as it was extremely last minute and rushed and just a picture of special ed teachers. From this piece, I learned the importance of covering controversial topics and covering an unjust or unequal system. Staying unbiased and getting different perspectives is also key, even through difficult conversations and interviews.

I chose to include this piece, because it was a full circle moment for me; as a sophomore I covered Villanova pizza, and for this I reviewed three different pizza restaurants. While I often only write news stories, it was so fun to write something else with my two mentees. A strength of this piece is the multimedia instagram video with a review video of each place. A weakness would be that pizza places are similar, and sometimes repetitive when writing about. From this, I learned to apply the review mini lesson and really touch all the senses around eating pizza and the atmosphere of restaurants.
I chose to include this piece because I am very passionate about inequities within the education system, and truly care about the faculty and staff of North. I believe across the nation educators are unrecognized for all they do, and the impact they make on so many lives. A strength of this piece was comparing it to North, and all the awards there are for students but not teachers. A weakness is probably the interactive element, I would’ve liked to do a poll or survey regarding how teachers or students feel about the issue. I learned that it's important to turn national issues into a school issue, and connect it together.

I chose to include this piece because I was able to write about my pride for North as class president, and the legacy my class will leave. A strength of this piece is the impact it has for so little words, and the call to action to underclassmen to continue the legacy. A weakness is probably not being able to explain more in depth each thing, but that comes with word count. I loved writing this because it was sentimental for me, but also made me reflect upon the success of my class. I’m proud to have helped contribute to the legacy.
I chose to include this piece because I am so proud of the executive team, and our accomplishment of our vision statement. Going into this year, I had high hopes of a Spartan award, and we did just that through timeliness, interactive elements, refining page designs, and strong leadership. A strong part of this piece is the lead where we invite the readers to what we started with, and the end to how we finished. A weakness is probably again the less depth, due to word count. I loved writing this piece, because I truly believe it is a result from our incoming leadership story last year.
